The erosion of natural resources is one of the most serious environmental issues of our times and thus requires sustainable development. This reference book aims to provide a general framework to ensure sustainable management of natural resources in order to improve quality of life as well as living standards. The book presents an upto date and comprehensive account of the important existing and potential natural resources. It considers each major resource in terms of its value to all living beings, exploitation and degradation and finally it can be restored and managed. The book contains 19 chapters. It has been divided into two volumes. We hope that this book will be of immense value for students, teachers, researchers, conservationist, policy makers and planners having concern for the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.

 

K. K. Singh

Dr. K. K. Singh did his B. Sc. (Ag) Hons. M.Sc. (Ag.) in Agricultural Chemistry and Soil Science from Agra university, Agra and M. Phil and Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry from A.M.U, Aligarh. He qualified National Eligibility Test- Soil Chemistry/ Fertility and Microbiology in 1995 and NET-1997 in Soil Science- Soil Physics/Soil & Water Conservation. He joined the Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Rajasthan in 1993 as Asst. Argil. Research Officer (Chem.) and presently working at Project Directorate (Research) Agricultural and Soil Survey, Krishi Bhavan, Bikaner.

Alka Tomar

Alka Tomar heads the Environment Research Group and the Environment Information Dissemination Center (ENVIS Centre supported by Ministry of Environment and Forest, GOI) at CMS New Delhi. A Post Graduate in Environmental Science, her area of specialization includes environmental education, natural resources and solid waste management. With nine years of experience in project planning, design and management, she has conducted research to formulate locale specific conservation education, communication and social mobilization strategies.

Vinod Phogat

Vinod Phogat did his B.Sc. (Hons.) Ag., M.Sc.(Ag.) in Soil Science and Ph.D. Soil Science in distinction from CCS Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar. After serving for a short stint in ICAR as scientist, he is actively involved in research, teaching and extension activity relating to the water management and the use of poor quality water in agriculture for the last 10 years. He has contributed 30 research papers in various Journals of National and International repute.

Suman Phogat

Dr. Suman Phogat did her D. Pharma., B.Sc. (Med.), M.Sc. (Chem.) from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak. She had done her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Choudhury Charan Singh University. She has been actively involved in teaching of chemistry and science education in schools and college level for the last 10 Years. She has contributed a number of research papers on synthesis in the reputed journals. She has also contributed book chapters and articles on various aspects of environmental degradation and resource conservation.
