Comprehensive Review of Anatomy, Morphology, and Phytochemicals with Health Benefits of Green Tea Leaves

Abstract
The Green tea of commerce consists of the processed, unoxidised young soft leaves and the vegetative buds of the Camellia sinensis plant. Green tea undergoes minimal processing and is not fermented, which helps preserve its natural colour, antioxidants, and polyphenols. Camellia sinensis (green tea) is one of the most widely consumed medicinal beverages globally, valued for its rich phytochemical composition and broad spectrum of health benefits. Despite extensive studies on its phytochemical and pharmacological properties, limited attention has been given to the plant’s anatomical and morphological characteristics and their relationship to phytochemical biosynthesis. This review is based on an in-depth literature review conducted across multiple scientific databases, including recent peer-reviewed articles, to compile a comprehensive overview of the morphology, anatomy, processing techniques, molecular mechanisms, and therapeutic potential of green tea leaves.
