Abstract
A comprehensive floristic assessment was undertaken in the campus of Post Graduate Government College Sector 11 Chandigarh situated in Chandigarh with the objective of documenting the diversity of angiosperm species occurring within the institutional landscape. The study was carried out during the academic session 2023–2024 through systematic field surveys conducted across different habitats of the campus, including ornamental gardens, lawns, roadside plantations, and other green spaces. Plant specimens were recorded, collected, and identified using standard taxonomic procedures. The survey resulted in the documentation of 162 taxa distributed among several plant families, reflecting considerable angiosperm diversity within the campus environment. The recorded flora comprises ornamental, medicinal, and naturally occurring plant species that contribute significantly to the ecological integrity of the area. Such vegetation plays an essential role in sustaining urban biodiversity, improving microclimatic conditions, and supporting ecological interactions within the campus ecosystem. The presence of diverse plant taxa also strengthens ecosystem stability and enhances resilience to environmental variations. The present study highlights the importance of conserving and maintaining plant diversity within educational institutions and demonstrates the role of campus green spaces as important reservoirs of urban biodiversity.
