Abstract
Nature is still an important reservoir of new molecules with potential therapeutic interest. Medicinal plants, in particular, provide a vast resource of novel natural compounds, with promising biological properties. Thus, the empirical approach of systematically screening plant extracts or plant-derived substances continues to be a valuable strategy for discovering new lead compounds. This article presents the work carried out to evaluate the antioxidant potency of Orthosiphon aristatus using various in vitro methods. Orthosiphon aristatus Benth. [Lamiaceae], a plant commonly used in traditional medicine, was assessed for its antioxidant potential in leaf methanolic extracts. The extract demonstrated significant antioxidant activity across all measured assays. A positive correlation between phenolic content and antioxidant activities was demonstrated by a heatmap correlation coefficient matrix. The study underscores the potential of Orthosiphon aristatus as a natural antioxidant, attributed to its high phenolic content and substantial antioxidant properties.
