India and Russia: A Vital Partnership in a Multipolar World

Abstract
The time-tested relationship between India and Russia has multiple dimensions. This article analyses the broader implications of the Russia-India partnership for international relations at large. This partnership is not only a stabilising factor for the global economy and politics that are currently undergoing profound transformation, but, through formats like the BRICS and the SCO, both countries are also giving shape to the emerging multipolar world order. The main parameters of the concept of multipolarity from a Russian perspective are examined in this article. Russia is also working towards the idea of a Eurasian partnership, wherein leading regional powers such as India, Russia and China can play a decisive role. On the bilateral front, India and Russia are adapting their cooperation to contemporary geopolitical and geo-economic realities, with economic cooperation at the top of the agenda. These new and mutually beneficial elements of cooperation will guarantee that bilateral engagement goes far beyond traditional fields such as defence and energy in the coming years.
