Abstract
Dr. Muhammad Yunus is a Bangladeshi economist, entrepreneur, politician, and civil society leader, who has been serving as the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh since August 8, 2024. Yunus is widely recognised for his pioneering work in microfinance and for founding the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. He gained fame for his efforts to combat poverty and empower marginalised communities, particularly women, by offering access to small loans. However, his political journey in Bangladesh has been marked by a series of notable rises, setbacks, and comebacks. His political involvement has sparked intense debate, controversy, and public attention, highlighting his lasting influence and the complex relationship he has had with Bangladesh’s previous political establishment. Therefore, this biography explores the trajectory of Muhammad Yunus’s involvement in Bangladeshi politics, from his early rise as an economic and social reformer to his entry into active politics, followed by his decline and eventual resurgence as a political figure.
