Abstract
The present field investigation was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of a proprietary Phytogenic Feed Additive (PFA) in maintaining pond water quality parameters in aquaculture systems, in comparison with two commercially available competitor products. Eight farmer-managed shrimp culture ponds were selected and allocated into three supplementation groups: G1- PFA (n = 6), G2- Competitor 1 (n = 1), and G3- Competitor 2 (n=1). The PFA was applied at a recommended dose of 15-20 kg/ha during pond preparation, followed by 10-15 kg/ha once every 7-10 days in low-salinity ponds and 8-10 kg/ ha once every 10-15 days in high-salinity ponds during the culture period. Competitor products were applied according to manufacturers’ recommended protocols. Key water quality parameters, mineral concentrations, and ionic profiles of pond water were assessed before and 24 h after product application. Ponds supplemented with PFA demonstrated consistent numerical improvements in water quality, mineral availability, and ionic balance, while all parameters remained within established reference ranges. Overall, pond environmental stability was superior in the PFA-supplemented ponds compared with competitor products. These findings indicate that PFA is effective in supporting optimal pond water quality and mineral equilibrium and may be recommended as a phytogenic feed supplement for sustainable aquaculture water management.
