Bangladesh Shines in Reducing the Regional Gender Gap

Bangladesh's gender gap index is surprisingly low for this small South Asian country. But at the micro family unit, which is considered the primary source of education for children, women's education must come first.

Dr. Lailufar Yasmin is Professor at the Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. An outstanding academic, she has been a Fulbright Scholar in the US, a Chevening Scholar in the UK, and recepient of the Australian International Post-Graduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) among others. She has done her fellowships on peace and conflict issues in the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Beijing, and as an Asia Fellow under the Ford Foundation Fellowship at Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS), Hawaii.
