The Book “Dalit Movement in India and its Leaders” reveals the history of Dalit liberation movement in India especially during 1857 to 1956. It attempts to find out causes of the origin of the inhuman practice of untouchability and its adverse effects on the Indian Society.

It expounds the history of Dalit emancipation, with special emphasis on the role played by the leaders individually and collectively for the liberation of their brethren from 'untouchability'. It, however covers all the aspects of the Dalit Movement succinctly.

This book is, obviously based on primary sources of information. Certain facts were duly confirmed and corroborated by other sources like documents and records in addition to personal

interviews of the respective leaders or their next of kins. It has been objectively analysed, properly interpreted and systematically arranged in a consolidated form. It would be certainly useful as a ready reference to the Scholars, interested in undertaking intensive research in this field.

Dr. Ramchandra Kamaji Kshirsagar (B. 1945) completed his M.A. (Pol. Sc.) in 1968, LL.M. in 1977 and Ph.D. (Pol. Sc.) in August 1985, from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (Maharashtra). He has worked as a Lecturer from 1971 and as Principal from 1993 in the People's Education Society's (Bom) Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Arts and Commerce, Aurangabad till 2005; Incharge Principal of Dr. Ambedkar College of Law from 2000 to 2002 and as Asst. Secretary of the Peoples Education Society at Aurangabad from 2000 to 2005. He was awarded “Associateship” at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla (H.P.) for two spells in July 1992 and November 1998. He guided six scholars in their research leading to Ph.D. Dr. Kshirsagar has several books to his credit, including Dalitancha Jahirmama (Marathi, 1978), Bharatiya Republican Paksh (Marathi, 1979), Untouchability in India: Implementation of the Law and Abolition (1986), The Scheme of Awarding Scholarship to the students of Weaker Sections (1987), Constitutional Safeguards for the S.C. (1989), Political Thought of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (1992), Dalit Movement in India and its Leaders (1994), Rise of Self Consciousness among the Untouchables in ancient and medieval India (2008), Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Yanche Moolyatmak Rajkaran (2009, Marathi), Ajachya Samasya Ani Bharatiya Sanvidhan (Marathi, 2010), Reservation : A Quest for Justice (2013), Karl Marx and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: A Comparative Study (2015). He has presented research papers in several seminars and conferences.
